Guide ยท Sleep

How much sleep do you actually need?

Adults need at least seven hours a night on a regular basis, according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society. Your own number may be higher.

The guideline

The AASM and SRS consensus recommends seven or more hours a night for adults. Regularly sleeping less is linked with worse health, mood and performance.

Finding your number

On a holiday with no alarm, after a few days, most people settle at their natural need. A tracker shows it too: the nights after which you feel and perform best.

What Life OS does

Life OS learns your sleep need from your own nights, shows how far short you were, and tells you what time to go to bed to catch up.

Questions people ask

Is 6 hours of sleep enough?

For most adults, regularly, no: the consensus recommendation is seven or more.

Can I catch up on sleep?

Partly, over a few nights. Going to bed earlier for several days works better than one long lie-in.
